Essential oils
Essential oils are derived from flowers, bark, roots and other parts of plants and basically constitute their life force. These oils have therapeutic qualities for the mind and the body. They are used in many ways such as inhaling, as a compress, in bath and application. The most effective method is hands on treatment where the therapist blends essential oils for treating a specific condition or a combination of conditions.
How these oils work
Essential oils are dynamic in more than one way. They are highly volatile, potent and sensitive organic liquids. They need careful storage for prolonged use. When applied to the body they act quite rapidly. They easily diffuse through the skin and into the body, and can penetrate through the blood vessels and body tissues. It has been clinically proven that they find their way through the bloodstream into the kidney within half an hour of administration. Aromatherapy works instantaneously and the healing process continues for a long time.
It is dynamic because these oils penetrate and exit smartly from the body. Although they do not remain in the body for more than three to four hours, they trigger a healing process, which may continue for days or even weeks thereafter. They work primarily through the olfactory system situated in the brain near the limbic area, which is the seat of memory and emotion. The aroma of an essential oil stimulates the limbic area, the nervous system and the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland releases hormones that work on the endocrine system to restore harmony.
